Knee Joint Pain
  Knee Joint Pain
The knee is a joint that has three compartments. This joint has an inner (medial) and an outer (lateral) compartment. The kneecap (patella) joins the femur to form a third compartment called the patellofemoral joint. The thigh bone (femur) meets the large shinbone (tibia) forming the main knee joint.

Knee joint pain is the most common joint pain issue of the lower extremity. When your knee hurts, activity stops. Everyday activity such as walking, running, and going up and down stairs can be painful and difficult; all leading to a diminished quality of life.

Knee joint pain can result from natural aging and breakdown of these bones and tissues. Pain can also come from overuse of the knee during high-impact activities and sports, or from acute injuries due to falls and missed footing.

Nowadays Knee joint pain is a common disease and people aren’t aware of the fact that if we let it aggravate, it can affect the quality of our life. Knee joint pain can be quite bothersome and the more severe types of pain will certainly make you consult a doctor and take the adequate treatment. Nevertheless, the most important aspects in the treatment of Knee joint pain are prevention and rest.

One of the most frequent joint pains, Knee joint pain is often involved in rheumatic diseases and immune diseases which affect the joints. Our knee joint has three compartments and the most common causes of Knee joint pain include injuries, degeneration, arthritis, infections and rarely bone tumors. Usually, Knee Pain is a consequence of overuse, inadequate stretching and not warming up or cooling down during physical activities. Another cause of Knee Pain is overweight.

The knee joint's main function is to bend and straighten. The knee, more than just a simple hinge, however, also twists and rotates. In order to perform all of these actions and to support the entire body while doing so, the knee relies on a number of structures, including bones, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage.

Knee joint pain can really take you out of circulation. Just think of what a high percentage of every day you spend walking, standing, or even running. So Knee joint pain sufferers tend to become less and less active, often becoming mere shadows of their former selves. This takes a toll on their health, not just physically, but emotionally and even mentally, as well. One of the most promising aspects of infrared light therapy is, while it won't give them the knees of a youthful star athlete, it can at least reduce their Knee joint pain levels to the point where they can get out and start enjoying life once again.

If a simple Knee joint pain can be cured by means of rest and self care, we suggest calling a doctor if you cannot bear weight on your knee, the knee is deformed, you have a severe pain, you still feel the pain after a couple of days of rest. According to the severity of the Knee joint pain, your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs or he may inject a steroid which reduces pain and inflammation. If you suffer from severe pain, you may also consult a physical therapist.

  >
Physical therapy is often recommended for injuries when your mobility is affected by the injury. Physical therapy helps you regain the full range of motion that you had before the injury.
Medications can include anti-inflammatory prescriptions that come in injections or in pill form. These anti-inflammatory drugs can reduce the swelling and pain associated with many conditions that cause Knee joint pain.
For conditions such as arthritis heat has been shown to reduce pain significantly. For injuries that have swelling ice packs can also provide some relief.
Capsaicin, the ingredient in peppers that makes them taste spicy, is used in over the counted creams to produce a warming effect on the skin. This can also reduce joint pain, as can products such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen.
A common treatment for pain in knee joint is the insertion of a needle to the joint to remove fluid that has been deposited in the space between the joints, to provide both relief and aid in diagnosis. Anti-inflammatory and pain medication may also be prescribed. Corticosteroid injections may also be administered directly to the joints, providing temporary relief for the pain in knee joint. Braces and orthotics may also be used, either in conjunction with the other treatments or alone to provide support for the injured body part.

No matter how severe your joint pain, there are different treatment options that you have available. The key to finding Knee joint pain treatment is to try different programs and find one that works for you. If you get stuck on one that doesn’t work, then you should focus on trying something else. There is not one treatment that will work on everybody, but there are many treatments that can help each individual case of joint pain.

What injuries can cause Knee Joint Pain?
An injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the knee joint. The complexity of the design of the knee joint and the fact that it is an active weight-bearing joint are factors that make the knee one of the most commonly injured joints.

How are joint pain and stiffness related to arthritis?
In Osteoarthritis (OA), the soft, movement-easing cartilage at the ends of joint bones breaks down and wears away as the person grows older. Eventually the bones rub directly against each other whenever the joint moves, causing pain and stiffness.
